VIP Login and VIP Server Problems
ASFRadio.com relies on cookies to
know who you are and what you can access. If you have trouble
logging in, or have rights to VIP servers and are unable to access
the tune-in page, make sure you are allowing cookies!
Listening to ASF Radio when away from your computer
 There are a lot of
options now to listen to Internet Radio without having to be near
a computer. If you have VIP Server access, be sure to consult our
"Device Instructions" area on the VIP Servers page for tune in
links.
Here are my recommendations...
1) Listen on
the Droid, iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch
Point the web browser on your device to "www.asfradio.com" VIP Server
Compatible
Features include ability to listen to ASF
Radio via 3G/Edge network* or Wi-Fi, VIP Server
access, Last 10 Tracks, Playlists, VIP Favorites and
requests.
Special Notes: iPhone/iPod users, OS3 or higher is required. Droid
users, DroidLive is required.
2) Listen on your home stereo
Recommended product -
AppleTV VIP Server Compatible (See instructions
below)
Features include RCA and Optical Digital outputs, Wi-FI and
Ethernet connectivity.
To listen with AppleTV to our VIP streams, first tune in from your
iPhone or iTunes using the VIP Servers instructions. Once you
connect, you can either:
a) Use AirPlay to push the audio to AppleTV - OR -
b) Tune in using the Internet -> Radio -> Classic Rock -> Atlantic
Sound Factory preset*
*Provided your IP Address doesn't change, you should be able to
tune in using the preset every time once you've connected once
with your iPhone or iTunes player. If your IP address changes,
though, you'll need to use iTunes/iPhone tune-in link once to
update the VIP system with your new IP before again using the
AppleTV preset.
NOTE: If you own an iPod Touch,
iPad
or iPhone, you can also connect your device directly to your stereo, follow the instructions
for "1" above,
and you're there!
3) Listen on your Windows or Palm Handheld
Recommended
product -
PocketTunes VIP Server Compatible
Features include Wi-Fi connectivity, ability to listen to ASF
Radio on your Palm or Windows Mobile device, custom URLs
4) Listen on your XBox
Recommended product -
TVersity (free) VIP Server Compatible
Requires a PC turned on in the house, supports custom URLs
5) Listen on your PlayStation Portable (PSP)
Use the
included Internet Radio software (No VIP Server support - public
streams only)
ASF public streams can be most easily found under the 70s or 80s genre searches.
*Listening on a cellphone/Edge network service is NOT recommended
unless you have an unlimited data plan!
Streaming Problems - Buffering
The station's
servers are hosted in one of the best data centers in the world.
It's expensive to host there, but the result is a very reliable
stream. So if you're having trouble with break-up and buffering,
the chances are high that the trouble is on your end.
Listening to internet radio requires at least 256kbps of download
speed. You can test your download speed at
speedtest.net
to see what your download speed is.
If your download speed is good, you may find other causes of
stream buffering. These may include WiFi interference (If you
listen on a WiFi network, 2.4GHz phones and microwave ovens can
briefly affect connectivity) and a program on your computer using
too much CPU.
There are ways to increase the tolerance for intermittent network
problems in the two most popular players. Here's how...
1) In iTunes, click "Edit" on the
main menu, choose "Preferences" and then click the "Advanced" tab.
Set the "Streaming Buffer Size" to LARGE
2) In Winamp, click "Options" on the main menu, choose
"Preferences" and then click the "Input" item under "Plug Ins". On
the right pane, choose "Nullsoft Audio Decoder 4.1 [in_mp3.dll]" -
yours may be different, but the important part is "in_mp3.dll".
Click "Configure", click the "Streaming" tab and increase the
Streaming Data Buffer value to 256. Save changes.
